Most Popular Ecommerce Websites: Semrush Study

The latest data on e-commerce in Spain (source: Statista, September 2019 ) tells us that online shopping is becoming increasingly popular in our country.

Revenues from these activities amounted to almost €16 billion in 2019 and are expected to reach €23.717 billion in 2023.

That same year, the number of e-commerce platform users will reach 37.7 million.

At SEMrush Spain we decided to find out which e-commerce sites are the most popular in Spain in terms of monthly traffic.

These are the sectors we analyzed in the study:

Single-brand fashion.

Cosmetics.

Electronics.

Marketplace.

Tourism.

Methodology used
Using the features of the SEMrush Traffic Analysis tool , we have analyzed e-commerce websites operating in Spain and have chosen the most popular ones by web traffic in Spain in October 2019 (also ranked by Desktop and Mobile traffic).

Then, with the help of the Market Explorer tool, we analyzed the audience data of the 3 websites with the most traffic in each sector.

Monobrand fashion
Among single-brand fashion websites (those that have their own brand and sell clothes from their website under the same name) the absolute leader is Zara, with 7.16 million monthly visits, followed by Mango.

Among the sites that offer everyday clothing, there are also Nike and Adidas, two sportswear giants.

The traffic trend in the three domains analyzed coincides.

Audience Analysis: Demographics
The trend in the gender distribution of the three websites analysed is clear: women visit fashion websites much more.

At Zara, 72% of the audience are women, at Mango, 74% and at HM, 69%.

As far as age is concerned, the audience is quite young – in all three cases the largest group is 25-34 years old.

Cosmetics
Primor, an e-commerce site of Spanish origin, is the most visited site by those who want to buy perfumes and cosmetics in Spain.

Among the first online stores we also find Douglas and Sephora.

The supremacy of mobile traffic in the sector is notable, with 90% of users accessing all websites except maquillalia.com using their laptops.
