Cava and Twitts and Solidarity 2.0

Post by sohanuzzaman56 »

Last Thursday, the 12th edition of Cava and Twitts took place, an afternoon in which Solidarity and its presence in the online sphere were discussed.

As has been the case for a couple of years now, Cava and Twitts has been taking place entirely in Catalan . I was a bit tired from the hustle and bustle of the week and, although I can usually understand the event better, last Thursday's edition touched on a "new" topic in terms of the online world and I missed quite a few main ideas and debates . I viber data apologize then for not being able to communicate and interact in Catalan, so I leave below several main ideas, as well as other reference posts that can provide an overall view of the topic discussed.

Speakers Dani Vilaró , Ramon Bartomeus and Jaume Albaigès spoke about:

– There are more than 7,500 non-profit entities or organisations in Catalonia. These organisations direct their actions towards countries in Europe, Latin America and Africa. (Surprisingly, they are third world countries in the last two cases).

– 2.0 tools , and even before that, all online tools, are still a long way off, in some cases, from being used to support causes. The organisations that use them or make use of them still have a long way to go in terms of coherence and complementarity between offline and online actions.

– The issue of financial resources was for later discussion. Should we make the organization known in order to then start asking for resources? Should we ask for resources in order to start working for the cause as soon as possible? In any case, nobody donates money just because they have seen the website for 10 seconds.

– For Dani Vilaró, being online represents a risk of not being able to control channels and messages, although this must be accepted. While for Jaume Albaigès, being online is more of an opportunity than a risk.

– Today there are organizations that have only one person in charge of communication , others have none. Thinking of someone who can take charge of being online and monitoring it is something unattainable at the moment.

– As in other areas, the speakers confirmed that the United States is taking the lead in Solidarity 2.0. We have talked about this in this post .

– An important fact: only 20% of the Spanish population collaborates regularly with NGOs . Therefore, virtual volunteering would be beneficial (on an ad hoc basis, limited to specific tasks, the tasks in an NGO are never exhausted).

– The case of Intervida was exemplary: they have been integrated into the 2.0 philosophy for 3 years , there is a person who takes care of it and Twitter serves to interact with other NGOs.
