I have been observing people for a long time who are trying to get into a management career. Often these people have previously held a staff position or are project managers. This is what I recommend in my article: How to become a manager. Now it is time to move up from this position to a management career. But there is clear feedback:
"They are not dominant enough - they need to assert themselves more. Sometimes freight forwarders brokers email lists they need to bang their hands on the table and make themselves unpopular."
But what is the truth behind this feedback and why are people in staff positions or project management not so dominant?
The feedback I also often received was that I should bang on the table more and "nag" employees sometimes. But as a project manager and in staff positions, I was dependent on the department heads to provide me with people and the employees to implement my internal projects voluntarily alongside their daily work. So what happens when I bang on the table? The employees no longer work voluntarily for my staff function and I have to do everything on my own. So I was never able to bang on the table. It was always important that I solve everything through some kind of cooperation and take a hit sometimes for the good of the project. But what about management? Is it different there?
“Dominance” in the staff department or as project manager?
