How to register a website in Google Webmasters Tools

Post by shukla7789 »

Webmaster Tools (WMT or Google Search Console) is a free service from Google that allows website owners to view statistics about their site's presence in the search engine (keywords that receive traffic, indexed pages, improvements to be made, etc.). Together with Google Analytics, they form the duo of essential analytical tools for any webmaster.

In the previous post I showed you how to create an account in Google Analytics, today I will do the same with WMT. If you already have an Analytics account, the process is very simple.

Create a Webmasters Tools account
It all starts at www.google.com/webmasters/tools , where you will have to enter your Google account passwords, the same ones you use to access other free Google services like Gmail.

You will then be taken to the main Webmaster Tools page, where you are ios database to add your first property, that is, your website:

When you do this, it asks you to verify ownership of that site, for which it offers you several methods. The one recommended by Google itself is to use your Google Analytics account, in which you have already verified that you are the owner of the website.

(For this, the Analytics and Webmaster Tools accounts must have been created with the same Google account).

More than easy, right?

Well, you have to add all the versions of your site. What do I mean by this? Well, even though you only have one domain, you can access it in several ways. If you are the owner of www.yourdomain.es you can access the website from that address with www or also if you put yourdomain.es in the browser, without www.

Typically a website has two versions, with www and without www, and you have to add both to Webmaster Tools and then select the preferred version, which is the one you want to show in search results. I recommend selecting the version without www because this way you will have more space available in the URL.
