The study seeks to understand how organizations have developed their digital capabilities over the past two years. Capgemini analyzed average scores across four categories: talent and organization , operations , business model innovation, and customer experience (CX).
Compared to the 2018 report focused on digital mastery , the 2020 edition of the research highlighted that, although all organizations reported progress in their digital transformation journeys, the gap between digital masters—i.e., companies with a high level of mastery of digital and leadership buy bulk sms service skills—and their competitors is widening. The COVID-19 pandemic has been a powerful accelerant of this trend, as it has required the introduction of changes with a certain urgency, pushing companies to become more confident and optimistic about the maturity of their capabilities. Furthermore, since 2018, companies have taken the time to evaluate the challenges hindering the success of their development journeys, increasing their investments in digital transformation and the adoption of emerging technologies, as well as placing greater emphasis on talent and culture.
Large companies with revenues of $10 billion or more reported higher scores in terms of digital and leadership skills, with nearly half of respondents reporting they possess the necessary digital skills, compared to those with revenues of less than $10 billion. A similar gap was also observed in terms of leadership skills , with smaller organizations reporting they possess the necessary skills, a percentage slightly lower than the average for large organizations.
From a sector perspective, every industry has made progress in both digital and leadership over the past two years: the retail sector leads the way, with organizations reporting they have the digital skills needed to embark on a digital transformation journey, an increase compared to two years ago. Telecommunications follows , with companies reporting they have the necessary digital skills and whose operators are reshaping their consumer value propositions by creating comprehensive digital experiences . The automotive sector leads the way in terms of skills growth, having increased its digital capabilities throughout 2020.
