Sustainability is a topic that is strongly leveraged in the current times in a whole plethora of fields of activity. One of these fields is artificial intelligence, whose algorithms also aspire to become green.
DigitalES , the Spanish Association for Digitalization, organized the debate “Green algorithms, the sustainable future of Artificial Intelligence” on Friday . During the event, in which representatives of the State Secretariat for Digitalization and AI, Fujitsu, IBM, Lexmark, Sopra Steria, Telefónica and the University of Castilla-La Mancha participated, a report was presented that dissects the challenges for the correct amalgamation of artificial intelligence and sustainability.
The document was created with the ultimate goal of providing certainty to the emerging environment of sustainable algorithms and helping companies and organizations to implement them within the framework of the Government's National Plan for Green Algorithms, which will be launched in the coming months.
To ensure that artificial intelligence and sustainability go hand in hand, DigitalEs proposes tools to reduce the energy consumption of software and hardware , models for the governance of sustainable AI in organisations, support from the Administration for the development of responsible AI, or the establishment of a regulatory 'sandbox' to promote R&D&I in green AI projects.
