Insects with wings, busily shaking their antennae – a kind of miniature livestock. Local farmers have been building a fly business in the village of Nizhneye Chuyevo in the Muchkapsky District for several years now.
Denis Davydov, pilot production technologist: “We were engaged in the production of geese, since it was in the provinces, we were looking for an alternative protein. First we came to the worm, we didn’t like the worm, the second lawyer database element was a fly, that is, a fly larva. We began to study this topic, we really liked it, because it is interesting to work with a fly, dynamically.”
Today, the farm, which never stands still, is an insectarium with five cages. Each cage contains four to seven thousand black soldier flies. This is one of the names of the flies that so interested entrepreneurs. These winged creatures are also called black soldiers or calcium flies.
Yulia Savushkina, special correspondent: “In general, for our area, the black soldier fly is an animal that is, as they say, foreign. The fly lives in South America, so it is a heat-loving creature. Comfortable temperature: from 28 to 32 degrees. Right now in the insectarium it is 31. In fact, it is a bit hot for us, well, and the flies, as you can hear, are buzzing quite a bit.”
