The Spanish tourism sector increased its organic traffic by 23% in 2024

ANDThe SEO sector has been one of the busiest in recent months, in an environment of high volatility caused by successive Google core updates . Faced with this uncertainty, the tourism sector stands out, reaching record figures in 2024, registering more than 800 million visits from search engines , according to a report by the digital marketing agency Eskimoz. This 21% growth compared to 2023 reflects a full recovery after the impact of the pandemic. Online travel platforms , passenger transport companies and interest in activities such as entertainment (+150%) and rural houses (+81%) have been the main drivers of this boom.


Among Spanish regions, the south-east of the country, including Valencia, Alicante and Almeria, saw a notable increase in interest. This growth is attributed to improved rail infrastructure and the focus on sustainable tourism , which continues to gain prominence among travellers.

The study highlights the dominance of TripAdvisor , which amazon database for 29% of the SEO market share among platforms for planning and booking trips online, leaving competitors such as Booking (13%) and Skyscanner (11%) in secondary positions, followed by Airbnb and Atrápalo. The ability of these platforms to capture user interest through positioning strategies has been key to maintaining their leadership.

Hotel supply and rural tourism on the rise
Within the hotel sector, the Barceló Group consolidated its dominance with a 52% SEO market share, surpassing Eurostars (19%) and Meliá (16%).

On the other hand, rural tourism showed remarkable growth, led by Escapada Rural , which reached an impressive 73% share, followed by Tuscasasrurales with 20%. This segment, driven by the growing demand for sustainable experiences away from large urban centres, has become one of the areas with the greatest potential within the tourism sector.


Renfe, leader in transport
In terms of transport, Renfe was the leader with 23% of the organic market share, well ahead of the comparison site Trainline (7%). Ryanair , with 13%, and the bus operator Alsa , with 9%, completed the ranking. These figures reflect the importance of SEO as a tool to capture the attention of travellers in an increasingly competitive environment.
