Google's SEO algorithm is partly a perfect guide to positioning, partly an unsolvable mystery. The part that is visible is used to optimize websites based on the criteria that Google requires, however, there is always a shadow space that we cannot access, and that we must fill based on empiricism, through trial and error.
Google's SEO algorithm has been deeply updated several times, currently it is considered that there have been up to 9 major updates, the last one being Fred, which affected the lowest quality links, however the algorithm is constantly evolving, making the work of an SEO become something exasperating.
What is the Google algorithm?
Like any algorithm, it is the result of a series of 99 acres database operations that seek to evaluate all the pages indexed in Google, in order to order them based on different SEO criteria.
It is impossible to determine how many of these criteria exist, but it is estimated that the truly important ones could number around 200.
Therefore, Google's SEO algorithm is a mathematical method for analyzing and ranking pages in the SERPs.
How often does the Google algorithm change?
We distinguish three different variations in the main Google algorithm, which are as follows:
Minor Updates: Google's SEO algorithm is constantly changing, with minor changes occurring every few hours to adjust results to user behavior.
Periodic updates: The algorithm undergoes more general changes about 100 times a year, that is, every 3 days. In this case, the changes may affect groups of websites with similar characteristics.
Major updates: It is not an absolute number, but there have been more or less 9 structural updates in Google, in these cases the vast majority of indexed websites are affected, for better or worse.
How to prepare for a Google update
Algorithm updates do not come after an alert from the search engine, they are prepared and implemented suddenly, Google does not even warn of the nature of the update or its purpose, we SEO technicians are the ones who detect this variation and measure its consequences.
We cannot therefore anticipate a structural update, nor can we even keep an eye out for some clues, as Google changes its criteria without warning.
Therefore, the only thing we can do to prevent this is to work based on the criteria that Google does not provide. For example, the latest algorithm changes have directly affected links. If you have a Black Hat-free link building strategy, you will not have to worry, the algorithm may vary but it will affect you in a positive way.
